Leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, as the party received five federal lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The endorsement took place on Saturday at Freedom Park, Osogbo, during a gathering presided over by the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru. The event also featured the official reception of the defecting lawmakers by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the APC in the state, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola.

The defectors include Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), as well as House of Representatives members Wole Oke, Sanya Omirin, and Taokeek Ajilesoro.

Addressing party faithful before the formal reception, Oyetola described the lawmakers’ decision to join the APC as a reflection of confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and a commitment to the development of Osun State.

“In the APC, there are no strangers — we are one united family. Your arrival strengthens our resolve to reclaim Osun and restore dignity to governance,” he said.

He added that the current administration inherited a fragile economy but had taken bold and necessary steps to stabilise and reposition it for growth.

“When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, Nigeria’s economy stood at the brink. Difficult decisions were required, and those decisions were taken. Today, the reforms are beginning to produce results,” Oyetola stated.

Also speaking, the APC governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, commended the President’s reform-driven approach, describing it as a foundation for sustainable development. He urged party members to remain united and focused ahead of the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.

In his welcome remarks, the Osun State APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, assured the new entrants of equal treatment within the party structure. He emphasised the importance of internal cohesion as the party prepares for the next electoral cycle.

Lawal criticised the current state administration, alleging a reversal of past achievements, and called on members to work collectively toward regaining control of the state in 2026.

The event marks a significant political shift in Osun State, with the defection of sitting federal lawmakers expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the forthcoming elections.
