{"id":96136,"date":"2026-02-04T11:54:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T11:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kokocurrent.com\/?p=96136"},"modified":"2026-02-04T11:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T11:54:11","slug":"former-pension-reform-boss-maina-slumps-hospitalised-aide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kokocurrent.com\/?p=96136","title":{"rendered":"Former Pension Reform Boss Maina Slumps, Hospitalised \u2014 Aide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, has slumped and been hospitalised in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident occurred on Tuesday while Maina was attempting to access his office, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by his media assistant, Emmanuel Ekwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ekwe said the incident was triggered by complications arising from an untreated knee injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the injury caused Maina to lose his balance and fall, during which he hit his head on a staircase before receiving immediate medical attention and being rushed to a private hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said, \u201cDr Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, slumped on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, while attempting to access his office premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe incident followed complications from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose balance and fall, resulting in his head hitting the staircase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMedical personnel present promptly administered first aid, after which he was rushed to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ekwe added that Maina remains under close medical supervision, noting that doctors are monitoring his condition while his family has appealed for privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDr Maina is currently receiving intensive medical care and remains under observation. Following a preliminary medical assessment, one of the attending doctors advised that arrangements for an air ambulance medical evacuation be considered should his condition fail to stabilise within a short period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHis family and medical team continue to monitor his progress closely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe family appeals to the public for prayers, understanding, and respect for their privacy at this critical time. Further updates will be communicated as developments unfold,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maina was recently released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after serving a jail term following his conviction for pension fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on charges bordering on money laundering involving over \u20a62 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in October 2019 but pleaded not guilty to the 12-count charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his judgment, trial judge Justice Okon Abang held that Maina stole over \u20a62 billion belonging to pensioners, \u201cmost of whom have died without reaping the fruits of their labour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Court of Appeal, in May 2023, upheld both the conviction and the eight-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, has slumped and been hospitalised in Abuja.
